ASSABET VALLEY GIRLS ICE HOCKEY PROGRAM

2010-2011

The Assabet Valley Girls Ice Hockey Program, Concord, Massachusetts, will begin its thirty-eighth season on September, 2010 and will conclude in April 2011. The program has been organized for twenty teams conforming to the USA Hockey girl’s classifications and a beginner program with a minimum age of six years. These USA Hockey classifications are U8 (eight and under), U10 (ten and under), U12 (twelve and under), U14 (fourteen and under), U16 (sixteen and under), U19 (nineteen and under), and Senior (sixteen and up). As in the past, the Assabet Valley Girls Ice Hockey Program offers activities in a balanced ice hockey program exclusively for girls.

For the 2009-2010 season, the Assabet Valley Girls Ice Hockey Program involves at least one or two team practices and at least one regularly scheduled league game per week, two skill session per month for all younger teams, invitational games, plus international competition and post season tournament play for qualifying teams. The teams league play will be in the South Shore Women's Hockey League for the Seniors, the New England Girls Hockey League for all U19, U16, U14, U12, U10 and the Northstar Youth Hockey League for the U12 (Red Major), U12 (Red Minor), U12 (White Major) U12 (White Minor), U10 (Red), U10 (White) U10 (Blue), U8 (Red) and U8 (White) teams and invitational home/home games for all other teams.

Assabet Valley Girls Ice Hockey teams have won the following titles over the years:

The Assabet Valley U19 (Red Major) was the 2010 U.S. National U19 Champions and U14 (Red Major) was the 2010 U.S. National U14 Runner-up and five Assabet Valley teams qualified for the 2010 U.S. Nationals, winning the 2009 Massachusetts State Championships in the U-14, U-16, U19, and SA Divisions.  In addition, three Assabet teams won the Massachusetts Non-National Championships in the U10, U14 and U16 Divisions. The program had an exceptional season winning (11) Tournaments and (4) League Championships.

Cindy Curley, former Assabet player, ended her term as the USA Hockey representative to the US Olympic Committee while Women's Athlete Representative to the USA Hockey Board of Directors (1995-2008).  Carl Gray received the 2004 Wm. Thayer Tutt Award for enhancement of grassroots level in America and was inducted into MA Hockey Hall of Fame in November, 2005.

2010 U.S. National Olympic Women's Ice Hockey Teams named three former Assabet Valley players to this year’s team (Kacey Bellamy, Molly Schaus, and Karen Thatcher). Previous U.S. National Women's Ice Hockey Teams contained the following number of former Assabet Valley players: 2008 contained four players, 2007 &  2006 contained two players, 2005 contained six players, 2003 contained two, 2002 Olympic team contained three, 2001 contained three, 2000 contained six, 1998 contained five, 1997 contained seven, 1995 contained nine, 1994, 1992, and 1990 contained eight. The U.S. National Women's Ice Hockey Team won the 1998 Gold Medal-Olympic Team and received 2008 Gold Medal World Championship, Silver Medals in nine other World Championships 1990, 1992, 1994, 1997, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002 (Olympics), 2004, 2005 and 2010.
