Skills Descriptions

Player development in the Assabet Program is accomplished through regular participation in skills sessions held weekly in addition to regular team practices.  These skill sessions teach basics of skating, advanced skating techniques, stamina and endurance skating.

Skills make-up policy - Every player should attempt to attend all scheduled skill sessions.   We understand there may be life outside of Hockey and therefore allow players to attend skill sessions for other levels that may be scheduled at a more convenient time.    For instance, there may be a school dance on Friday night and your team is scheduled for skills.  You may attend the dance and make up the session on Saturday by attending a skills session scheduled for a level above or below your level.  Remember, these skill sessions are where significant player development occurs!

Skills Agility

The Agility Skills Sessions are used to teach techniques of body control, weight distribution, footwork and reflexes.  You will also learn stick handling, passing, shooting, and edge control to help develop all aspects of your hockey skills.   Highly qualified instructors are brought in to teach these skills to all girls in the Assabet Valley Program, no matter what level of skill you currently have.

Skating Dynamics

The Dynamics Skill Sessions are Power Skating sessions where speed and stamina are developed.  You will learn how to use your edges to increase speed and quickness.  Power skating drills are used to build stamina and strength.  Our goal is to provide each player with intense and individual skill development for all aspects of the game. We are dedicated to the development of young competitive hockey players.

Goalie Development

Special Goalie training sessions are held on Saturday mornings as shown on the practice schedule.  These sessions are used to teach proper technique and give more direct instruction than can occur during your team practice.  Qualified instructors as well as current Assabet Valley coaches are brought in to teach these sessions.  If any player has an intrest in trying Goalie, please talk to the Carl Gray about attending these training sessions.
